All Karshare bookings are covered under our insurance policy. Within this policy there is an excess to pay in case of damages.
This excess £950, is the maximum amount that the renters is responsible for in the event of physical damage.
Renters can reduce the excess to £350 by paying a £25 fee. This option can be selected in the 'choose any extras section' as you make a rental booking.
The deposit is different to the excess. Before each Rental Period Karshare will make a temporary hold of a pre-authorisation amount of £250. This is to cover potential damage, fines, tolls and other unintended costs.
When do I get my deposit back?
Your deposit will be returned within 7 working days from the end of your rental booking as long as there is no damage found on the car which will require investigation.
If a claim for damages is made by the car owner, Karshare will investigate and use the condition photos to settle the case.
We will always return the deposit to you unless we are certain damage was caused to the car during your rental. You are responsible for taking good quality clear photos, including all panels of the car, both at the start and the end of the rental.
What does the insurance excess cover?
The standard insurance cover we provide is fully comprehensive. This means that the excess is the maximum amount you will pay if you cause damage to the car.
How does it work in practice?
If a renter had standard insurance with the full excess of £950 and they managed to cause a dent to a car door which cost £350 to repair, Karshare would only take £350 and will return the remaining £600.
If a renter had standard insurance with reduced excess £350 and you managed to cause a dent to a car door which cost £350 to repair, Karshare would keep the £350 excess and that would be the end of your liability.
