A mileage allowance is how many miles you will allow someone to drive in your car.
We ask that you set a daily allowance which restricts the number of miles your car can be driven in a single day.
How to set the allowance
When setting up the listing for your car, you will have been asked to set your daily mileage allowance.
If you would like to update the daily mileage allowance, please follow these steps:
-
Navigate to the 'My Cars' section on the mobile app or website
-
Click on 'Settings'
-
Select mileage allowance by clicking on the number already displayed
-
Set the mileage allowance you would like
You will now see that the mileage allowance has automatically been updated.
How does the mileage allowance work?
The mileage allowance is set for a day. A rental booking of 8 hours will receive the full daily allowance. Anything below that will receive a percentage of the total daily allowance.
e.g. If the daily mileage allowance is set at 240 miles and the car is rented for 3 hours, the daily allowance would be 90 miles (3/8 of the daily allowance)
The same logic would apply to longer bookings:
e.g. If the daily mileage allowance is set at 240 miles and the car is rented for 28 hours, the allowance would be 360 miles (1 day at 240 miles + 4/8 of the daily allowance)
The allowance is for for the duration of the rental so if the renter uses more miles on 1 day and less miles on another day as long as they are not over the total limit they will not be charged extra.
What happens if a renter exceeds the mileage allowance?
If a renter exceeds their mileage allowance they will currently pay £0.30 per mile. This will be charged to the renter and will be deposited into your account along with your rental income.
