To ensure Karshare renters get a great experience vehicles made available on our platform must comply to the following eligibility criteria:
Car Eligibility
- Less than 13 years old
- Less than 100,000 miles on the clock
- Be comprehensively insured in the UK, have a valid MOT where applicable and vehicle road tax
- A UK registered vehicle and registered to a UK resident
- Have a replacement value no more than £50,000
- Have no custom modifications
- Be in an insurance group of 1-34
- Not imported or a left hand drive
- Either have a blade turn key ignition or proximity push button start. Keys that need to be inserted into the dashboard aren't compatible.
- Not a CAT S/N (formerly C / D categories)
- The bodywork of the vehicle should be in good condition - with no noticeable scratches, dents or other imperfections
- Be parked in an accessible location which has a phone signal
- Be roadworthy - see below
We reserve the right to use discretion in relation to hosting vehicles that are higher performance, due to the risk associated with such vehicles - examples being Audi S, Mercedes AMG, BMW Motorsport, Volkswagen R models.
Roadworthy Checklist
- Tyres all have adequate tread depth and are not worn
- The handbrake works
- Engine noise is not excessive or unusual
- There are no warning lights on the dashboard
- Electric windows work
- All rear viewing mirrors fitted as standard in the vehicle are in place as required, and can be adjusted
- Side mirrors are free from cracks
- Seats adjust
- Seat belts are present and work
- Headlights, indicators, brake lights and reversing lights work
- Any chips on the windscreen are noted
- The in-car entertainment and other peripherals work
- Washer fluid is present
- The oil level on the dipstick should be at least at the halfway point between the minimum and maximum indicators
Lease Cars
Karshare allow lease cars but they must adhere to the following:

The owner must be the person who holds the lease contract

The owner's lease contract must allow, or at least not specifically exclude, sub leasing or peer to peer rental of the lease car

The owner must make Karshare aware of any restrictions that may apply to the owner's lease arrangement such as licence types or driver age
