To help Karshare enhance our product and cover platform costs we charge a booking fee on each rental booking. This goes towards customer support, marketing, product improvements and renter checks, meaning Karshare can provide the best end user experience possible while retaining great value rentals.
The booking fee is calculated as a percentage of the total booking cost, after excess and insurance have been added, but before VAT.
Insurance
We make sure that all bookings are fully insured to protect you and the owner.
The insurance is dynamically calculated according to the length of the rental, the vehicle chosen and your personal renter score. How do we calculate your renter score?
Full Excess
This excess is the maximum amount that the renter is responsible for in the event of physical damage.
Reduced excess (recommended)
Renters can reduce the excess by paying a small fee. This option can be selected in the 'Choose any extras' section as you make a rental booking.
Deposit
You must make a deposit to rent a car which can be paid using both a credit and a debit card. The deposit amount varies based on your renter score and choice of vehicle.
Post booking costs
An owner can claim for costs associated with your booking. This could be for damage, fines and charges, fuel or additional mileage.
VAT charges
20% VAT will be charged where applicable.
Our insurance costs, which are split out for transparency do not have VAT applied. They do include Insurance Premium Tax which is passed directly to our insurance provider.
Renter cancellations
Please note for any renter cancellations the booking fee (including its VAT) is non-refundable.
